As you can see, from an early age I liked the piano. By 2nd grade, I HAD to have lessons. I began years of education and appreciation of music. I even played the flute for 8 years in school bands. Being very active in community theater, I chose to pursue music and theater at Roosevelt University/Chicago Music College and earned a BFA with double honors. I started performing in professional musical comedy in Chicago and delivering singing telegrams. Later, in Las Vegas, I sang with girl groups paying tribute to the Andrews Sisters. Beginning in 1990, I taught piano and voice, heading the Music Department at the Fern Adair Conservatory of the Arts in Las Vegas. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2000, I continued singing with the girl groups Trilogy and The Goils and became independent with my piano teaching.
Keeping lessons fun and interesting is of utmost concern. I favor publishers Alfred and Bastien to combine the basics: learning to read music (lesson book), understanding and hearing what you're reading (theory book, ear training), and then working on a song of YOUR choice - be it Beethoven or The Beatles. THIS is the song you'll play for your friends! The genre is varied to receive a well-rounded education and at times the repertoire will be learned by ear.
I feel extremely lucky to love my job! I've had the chance to teach the children of the Ahmanson family of LA, Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith, Martin Lawrence, Chan Kinchla of Blues Traveler, John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, and many others. I also enjoy teaching adults. I enjoy the challenge of locking into a student's personality and finding the best way to connect, educate, and build confidence.
It's an honor to be an instructor and help spread and share the joy of music that will last a lifetime. Hopefully, we can share a lesson!
